Addictive Personality? Turn Your Weakness into Strength

While people may tell you that you need to get rid of your addictive personality, they do not have a clue how difficult getting rid of it can be. Addictive personalities can be a bit troubling but that’s not any reason to just let it be. You can just change your entire personality, so instead of trying to eliminate it or giving up, embrace it in a positive and wholesome manner. Your addictive personality may be fixated right now, and your fixations may be on junk food, strange and unproductive past times, drugs, alcohol, or other unhealthy habits. But you work on letting go of these fixations, and you can begin to use your addictive personality for some productive and exciting purposes.

Embrace Your Passion

People with addictive personalities often are very passionate. Therefore, embrace your interests and talent in a productive manner. Learn something new about a subject that interests you each day. Doing something small on a daily basis is a great way to embrace your passions. Keep pushing your personal limits to know more about your passion than you knew yesterday. Then, find a positive way to show the world what you are passionate about. In the process, you are likely to find other people who are passionate about the same things. Of course, also try to branch out at the same time, leaving time to take care of yourself, and visit loved ones. While your new passion or interest might not be destructive, you do not want to be completely single-minded when it comes to it.

For example, if you want to be a lawyer, but you do not have your high school diploma, then start by setting a goal of earning your GED. While you may have negatively used that behavior in the past, you can easily take calculated risks to better your situation in life. The first thing that you need to do is envision a better future where you are in control of your own circumstances. Understand that most of the risks you take might very well fail, but you must endure the failures until you hit that one idea that will make you insanely successful. Believe that you can succeed so much that you are willing to tell everyone else who wants you to get a regular job that they can keep their opinions to themselves. Above all else, remember that the amount of success that you experience is proportionate to the amount of risk you are willing to take. While you will need to learn to deal with your fear of making a mistake, grow through each new experience.

Value Your Nonconformity

The chances are that you will never conform to what others believe is normal if you have an addictive personality. Permit yourself to know that is quite acceptable. Just be sure to drop the bad habits if you still have them. For example, if you struggle with drugs, weed, or alcohol, you will still need to stop.
